When does offset printing make sense?

Offset printing transfers the image to paper via printing plates and a rubber blanket. The preparation involved is spread across more copies as the print run increases.

Medium and larger print runs

For catalogues, reports or sales materials with fixed content, printing plate and machine setup costs are spread across the entire run. The economics also depend on format, page count, paper and finishing.

Catalogues & reports

Image-rich catalogues and publications

Images, tables and longer texts have different paper and printing requirements. We match surface, paper whiteness and specification to your content, including substantial publications with many double-page spreads.

Spot colours and coordinated colour specifications

Alongside cyan, magenta, yellow and black, additional spot colours such as Pantone or HKS can be used. We establish the right colour specification based on the design, paper and desired effect.

  • Paper and printed appearance

Paper surface, white shade and absorbency affect colour reproduction. We choose the material alongside the format, page count and finishing. Different papers may be appropriate for the cover and inner pages.

  • Print files and colour approval

We check format, bleed, image resolution and fonts. Spot colours must be clearly defined. For colour-critical images, we agree a suitable approval method, such as a proof. A screen image is not a binding colour reference.

  • Finishing and delivery date

Folding, binding and embellishment take time in addition to printing. Material availability and any drying time are also considered. We schedule file delivery and approval by working backwards from the required delivery date.

  • Offset or digital printing?

There is no fixed quantity threshold. Digital printing may be more suitable for small quantities, changing content or multiple versions. We compare print run, page count, paper and finishing to find the right specification.

From planning to the finished print run

  1. Plan quantities and specifications

Quantity, format, page count and deadline form the basis. We agree the paper, colours and finishing, then prepare a quotation for the specification.

  2. Approve print files and colours

Prepress checks the technical files. You approve the content, specification and agreed version. Any agreed proofs or colour references are taken into account before plate-making.

  3. Print, finish and deliver

After plate-making and setup, the approved quantity is printed. The agreed finishing and embellishment steps follow, along with packing and delivery.
