Publications with distinctive specifications

Different papers, inserts, fold-out pages and special covers must work with the binding and page structure. We assess how they fit together before the layout is finalised.

Die-cut and folded print products

Cut-outs reveal images. Folds reveal content step by step. Outlines, fold lines and material are planned together, including the stability of narrow connecting sections and how the product will be handled.

What does your idea need to achieve in production?

A different paper can change the fold; an embellishment adds another production step. We therefore consider the planned specification as a whole.

  • Consider function and design together

Opening, pulling out, detaching or reclosing: we assess the construction for the intended use. For multi-part products, we define dimensions, sequence and connections.

  • Match materials to printing and finishing

Surface, thickness and stiffness affect printing, embossing and finishing. Materials are chosen for the role of each component, from insert to cover.

  • Assess outlines and embellishments together

Fine embossing, small cut-outs and tight spacing create particular requirements. We assess the design, size and material combination and discuss adjustments before approval.

  • Consider sequence and assembly

Printing, embellishment, die-cutting, folding and assembly are planned in the appropriate order. For multi-part products, we also allow for any necessary hand assembly.

Discuss your idea and its feasibility

Use the right sample to answer the key questions

Different projects need different types of samples. We agree in advance what needs to be assessed and the scope of sampling.

  • Material samples for surface and feel

Material samples let you assess paper whiteness, texture, thickness and feel. The eventual printing or embellishment effect can be checked separately where needed.

  • Unprinted mock-ups for shape and function

An unprinted mock-up shows the construction: dimensions, folding sequence, opening and assembly. We agree which materials it uses and how closely it represents the final production run.

  • Print and embellishment samples for the final effect

A sample can show how a foil looks or how legible embossing is on the chosen material. We clarify feasibility, costs and any additional time for each project.

  • Record approvals clearly

The agreed specification and final file version govern production. Depending on the project, approved samples or individual finishing details may also apply.

Make the production costs clear in advance

Alongside quantity, preparation, tooling and finishing determine the price. We therefore include budget and deadline in the discussion early.

Preparation and unit costs

Cutting dies and embossing tools involve costs that are spread across the quantity produced. For short runs, this accounts for a larger share per copy. Material, printing and finishing costs are additional.

Discuss the work involved

Compare specification options

Format, material, number of embellishments and assembly affect the quotation. Where several approaches are possible, we compare the specifications and clarify their essential features.

Coordinate sampling and timing

Material sourcing, samples and adjustments require lead time. Tell us about fixed event or publication dates early, so we can schedule decisions and approvals accordingly.

Agree the schedule

Tooling, samples and other preparatory work are agreed in advance, including the work involved. The final specification forms the basis of your production approval.

From the first sketch to the finished bespoke product

A sketch, reference image or existing sample is enough to get started. Complete print files are not yet required.

  1. Understand the idea and requirements

Clarify design, function and use. Dimensions, quantity, budget and preferred deadline define the framework for your project.

  2. Assess production and costs

Assess materials, processes and finishing. Agree sample and tooling requirements and the scope of preparatory work in advance.

  3. Approve samples and files

Check function and specification using the sample. Approve artwork checks, specification and the final file version before production.

  4. Print and embellish

Produce using the agreed materials. Apply embossing, foils and varnishes at the planned stage in the process.

  5. Finish and assemble

Die-cut, fold, bind, glue or assemble. Multi-part products follow the defined sequence and component assignments.

  6. Plan transport and handover

Choose packaging that protects the shape and surface. Deliver flat, assembled or as a set, according to delivery locations and partial quantities.

Questions about bespoke print projects

Yes. Describe the effect and function you want. A sketch, photo or simple model helps with an initial assessment. We then clarify which details and preparatory work are needed.
