Prepress and artwork preparation in Mannheim

Do the format, images, fonts and colours suit the planned production? We check your files and, as agreed, prepare them for printing, embellishment and finishing. We clarify any necessary adjustments with you or your agency before print approval. We check the format, images, fonts and colours, and prepare your files for printing and finishing as agreed.

What does prepress include?

Technical artwork checks

During a technical artwork check, also known as preflight, we assess the file against production requirements. These include, in particular:

  • Finished size, bleed and page count
  • Image resolution at the intended print size
  • Embedding of the fonts used
  • Colour spaces, colour profiles and spot colours
  • Transparency and overprint settings

This allows technical issues to be identified and addressed before production.

Correcting and preparing files

Missing bleed, unsuitable colour settings and layout adjustments need different solutions. We clarify which corrections can be made to the existing file and which additional source files are required. We agree the scope and cost of the work in advance.

Preparing for embellishment and finishing

Embossing areas, varnishes and die-cut outlines require clearly identified production data. Spine widths, fold positions and binding also affect artwork setup. We match these details to the agreed specification.

Technical artwork checks do not include proofreading. You check text, figures and spelling before approval. Typesetting and design support can be arranged separately.

How to prepare your files for handover

  • A print PDF tailored to the job

Where possible, agree export specifications with us before creating the final file. PDF/X-4 is a common print format; the colour profile and other settings must suit the intended production. A general PDF preset alone does not constitute approval for print.

  • Source files for necessary changes

If we are to edit content or design, we may also need editable layout files and linked images. We clarify which files are required and how to transfer them for each project.

  • Clear versions and specifications

Label language versions, editions and revisions clearly. Also tell us about any planned spot colours, embellishments or specific colour reproduction requirements. This makes coordination and file management easier.

From file delivery to print approval

  1. Agree requirements and files

We clarify the product, format, paper and finishing. We then agree the required files, export settings and transfer method.

  2. Check files and agree adjustments

We check the supplied files for technical suitability. If changes are needed, we agree whether you will provide new files or we will carry out the agreed edits.

  3. Approve the final version

After corrections, you check the agreed final version for content and completeness. Your approval makes this version the basis for production.
